Offered is a mid-19th century relic from the earliest days of organized baseball, a so-called "lemon peel" ball, named for the resemblance of the leather panels to the shape of a peeled lemon. This brown ball measures 5.6 oz. with a circumference of 9 5/8, specs that place it in the 1863-1866 time period, with a criss-cross stitched pattern that meets at one end. The unmarked leather offers a like new appearance. A fantastic piece of baseball history from the Civil War era.
