The first true superstar in baseball history, here's Cap Anson on his famous 1887 Allen & Ginter card, graded SGC 7 NM. Both the front and back surfaces are pack-fresh, sporting a snow-white backdrop with a perfectly delivered image of Anson on the front and an equally bright reverse with the set's roster of stars. The corners are NM/MT and the brilliance of the white canvas only magnifies the perpendicularity of the corners as well as the richness of the pigmentation that creates Anson's image. A larger-than-life figure of great talents and great faults, Anson managed the Chicago White Stockings to five pennants and set all the batting records that required men of even greater prowess like Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth to surpass. Simply put, we've seen higher-graded examples from this series that couldn't match the sheer eye appeal offered here.
