Known as "$10,000 Kelly" when he was sold for that amount (roughly $250,000 by today's dollar value) to the Boston Beaneaters in 1887, Michael "King" Kelly was one of the original superstars of baseball, capturing two batting championships while often among the league leaders in runs scored and doubles. Presented on his 1887 Old Judge card with bat at the ready, Kelly's photo is particularly strong, contrasting well with the sepia toned backdrop. Slightly centered toward the right side, a minor offense compared to most Old Judge issues, with pleasing corners and edges given the grade of SGC 40 VG 3. A very presentable specimen of one of baseball's first legends.
