Rose Postcards are among the most popular issues of the early 20th century and the postcard of Honus Wagner rates near the top of the list. The surprisingly expansive collection features twelve players from each major league team and twelve more from the Scranton, PA Miners of NY State League (likely added due to the Rose Company's proximity to the city) with many key Hall of Famers on the roster, but the Honus Wagner postcard rises to the top of the list for one very simple reason; the classic Carl Horner created image of Wagner in the center is the image used to create the almost mythical T206 card, the true patriarch of the 150-year baseball card industry. The featured Rose Postcard of "The Flying Dutchman" is one of only 5 ever graded by PSA and the only one to receive a numerical grade, the others being deemed AUTHENTIC for various reasons. Rounded, chipped edges and numerous creases expected of a card with PSA's introductory grade serves to give the 110-year old specimen some well-deserved character, and although some light creasing does stray through the splendid image of Wagner, it does little to detract from his iconic presence. Most importantly, the eye appeal of this rare piece is superb given the grade, with no paper loss present anywhere on the front or back. The ornate gold leaf bats and frame border are delightfully intact, adding to the overall allure of this all important pasteboard. A true prize for any advanced collector!
