It's not often that you find a card from the legendary T206 series that has survived the century-plus journey to today in virtually the same condition as when it was made. But that's the case here, and when you add in that the subject is one of the greatest hurlers in baseball history, Hall of Famer Christy Mathewson, you've got an exceptional piece that can anchor even the best of collections. The image of "The Christian Gentleman", set against a boldly pigmented two-tone backdrop, is extremely sharp and shows great detail, allowing the observer to view the physical features of the baseball icon through the eyes of the artist. The centering mildly favors the top edge, a minor inconvenience that is easily offset by corners and edges that stretch toward MINT consideration. The reverse is particularly bright and well-framed. A superb example from arguably baseball's most coveted issue!
