One of the most significant issues in the huge T206 series, the "red background" Ty Cobb card stands as one of the most coveted baseball cards ever produced. Though this one doesn't carry the legendary Ty Cobb reverse, which would send you into the seven-digit territory, it does display the Tolstoi cigarettes ad back, far more scarce than the Sweet Caporal or Piedmont reverse. Moderate but consistent rounding at the endpoints are in line with the grade but doesn't detract from the overall eye appeal, especially since the card is superior to the grade in terms of the central image and the near-perfect centering, two key traits you don't often find at this grade level. The Tolstoi reverse is equally as pleasing, perfectly centered with clean black ink on a surprisingly white canvas. A very attractive example of a Cobb red background with incredible centering, a scarce back, and superior brightness that can outclass just about any in its grading tier.
