When it comes to collectible materials related to the great Ty Cobb, we here at Mile High have offered just about anything and everything imaginable, from items that are relatively abundant within the hobby to others that are seldom, if ever, seen at auction. Things that have seen a lot of love over the decades as evidenced by their condition, others that have been reasonably well-cared for but aren't exactly in their original state, and collectibles that have been extremely well-preserved and show almost no evidence of human contact. This is true whether we are referring to cards, autographed baseballs, photographs, advertising displays, handwritten letters, bank checks, or anything else that hobbyists might view as collectible. Which brings us to the offered item which is literally nothing short of stunning in terms of paucity and, most importantly, condition. Presented is a pristine specimen featuring the Georgia Peach from the E98 set, recently graded at the 9.5 MINT+ level by SGC and absolutely fresh to the hobby. Now when advanced hobbyists hear about ultra high-grade E98 specimens, the tendency is to think back to the famed Black Swamp Find, which resulted in numerous unbelievably fresh examples entering the marketplace some 10 years ago. While the offered card does not carry the Black Swamp Find designation on the flip, there can be no doubt that it originated from that world-class collection and simply was not tendered for grading until recently. It seems utterly illogical to assume that a card of this caliber could have been sourced from any other location. But as impressive as the MINT+ 9.5 assessment, we can't help but wonder why it isn't in a GEM MINT 10 holder! I mean, what more could you possibly be looking for? The vivid background color remains so bold that it looks like it was impressed upon the canvas yesterday, not 122 years ago. The image of the first-class Hall of Famer is incredibly clean and well-registered, framed perfectly amid alabaster white borders that show absolutely no signs of any impediment, and corners that are without question at the GEM MINT level. The reverse is absolutely clean and blemish-free, with faint traces of bleed-through from the deeply saturated obverse, and offers well-struck lettering placed perfectly upon the card stock. Though two examples have somehow emerged from the SGC grading process with higher technical assessments than this one, we challenge anyone to point out any aspects of their superiority! An absolutely world-class Ty Cobb collectible keepsake, most likely destined for the extreme upper echelon of advanced trophy rooms.
