While a very light crease in the middle (nearly impossible to see in the scan) and some staining on the back factor into the PSA 1.5 grade, this iconic issue of "Shoeless" Joe Jackson is about as eye-pleasing as you'll ever see for the grade. The color is superb, boasting that brilliant red Cracker Jack color, while the centering is extremely good even for cards at the mid-grade and slightly higher level. Each of the corners shows some wear but displays at a VG to VG/EX level overall, and if you've looked at prices realized lately, you'd know that cards at that grade level are well into six-digit territory. So why the "Holy Bible" title? Well, the card was found in northern Minnesota by a family going through the personal items of their recently passed great-grandmother. Among the items found was an early 20th-century Bible, written completely in German, with a bookmark inside. One of the most valuable bookmarks known as it turns out, because marking the pages was this 1914 Cracker Jack Shoeless Joe Jackson card, with no other baseball cards among her personal items. The sequence of events leading up to this discovery will never be known, but in any event, the card is absolutely gorgeous for the grade and can easily rival examples a grade or two higher for eye appeal. If you've ever wanted a sharp-looking example of the Shoeless one from the absolutely legendary 1914 Cracker Jack series, this is the one to go after!
