Joe Jackson swung the bat harder than most of his contemporaries, and players swore that his line drives sounded different from anyone else’s. Many other players held their hands apart on the bat and punched at the ball, but Joe put his hands together near the bottom of the handle and took a full swing. “I used to draw a line three inches from the plate every time I came to bat,” Jackson said many years later. “I drew a right angle line at the end of it, right next to the catcher, and put my left foot on it exactly three inches from home plate." He stood in the box, feet close together, then took one long step into the pitch and ripped at it with his left-handed swing. “I copied my swing after Joe Jackson’s,” Babe Ruth told Grantland Rice in 1919. “His is the perfectest.” The featured keepsake conjures up the thoughts of the illiterate Southern boy from Greenville, SC who absolutely rose to stardom before a Greek mythology like fall from grace. The card itself has been rendered to the grade of Authentic by SGC, which appears to be the result of a soaking to remove the card from a vintage scrapbook which has left paper remnants on the reverse as well the card appears slightly less colorful than most Cracker Jack cards. With that said the card appears of the right dimensions suggesting that the card has not been altered in any way regarding the size of the card. Aside from its Authentic designation (which we believe is accurate although we would not be surprised if the card did receive a numerical grade) the card projects as a solid and extremely attractive EX+ to EX/MT example with superior eye appeal.
