Developed by Spalding, this special J5-V football was given a white sheen so that it could be used at dusk for college play. In 1920, the American Professional Football Association was formed, with the Spalding Model J5-V being named the official ball of the league. Two years later, the league was renamed the National Football League. By the 1930s, the Spalding J5-V began to be known as "The Duke," a nickname bought by Wilson in 1941 and used ever since as the official football of the NFL. The featured football is a true piece of sports history, a Spalding J5-V that was used during the game's infancy. The ball holds air perfectly and makes for a fantastic display piece!
