Offered is a truly stunning and highly visual image of Christy Mathewson on the lid that introduces the viewer to this extremely rare and impressive baseball table game marketed in 1922-23. Its dynamic, 16" x 22-1/2" presence would have served equally well as a contemporary display ad as it does serve as the central image on this fantastic board game. Rendered on substantial, laminated cardboard stock, the lid most certainly drew attention to the pleasure of "Big Six." Its central feature is an action pose of the celebrated Christy Mathewson, who endorsed the product. The item was manufactured by, Piroxloid Products Corp. of New York and a credit to this appears at the bottom, then nestled in the lower left corner is that maker's logo with the copyright date, 1922. The piece has endured very well with no evidence of irresponsible handling. The lid concedes no creases, with faint spots of toning only apparent in non-critical areas, and the delicate side panels are present and fundamentally intact, the corners have separated, the box's plain bottom is structurally sound. The game board -- which occupies the entire bottom-surface area within its box, and showcases a "Spin the Pitcher" dial with a picture of Mathewson at its pointer's tip -- is minimally NM or better in appearance, and a paper-stock game chart (showing team rosters, scorecards and instructions) is also included and is in top notch condition. A tremendous period Baseball game/advertising piece that is offered in a condition befitting the finest of collections!
