The A.J. Reach company, founded former player and founder of the Philadelphia Phillies franchise, began manufacturing baseball equipment in the late 1800s and by the turn of the century had become the largest sporting goods producer in the country. Prior to World War I, the company had enlisted Connie Mack for product endorsement, and soon after, set its sights on the biggest sports icon in the world, Babe Ruth. Though not known for his fielding in nearly the same way as his hitting, the company launched the Babe Ruth "Home Run Special" fielding glove with the Babe's endorsement inside the palm. Offered is a scarce surviving example, with the endorsement still clearly legible. This fantastic relic possesses all the original lacing, the leather remains supple and the interior lining is still intact. Fabulous!
