The Goudey Card Company produced an iconic 240-item baseball card series in 1933 that now serves as the gold standard for the hobby. But they also produced a supplemental collection, a 48-card collection that focuses primarily on sports in general, introducing stars of tennis, golf, boxing, hockey, and others. But of course, baseball is a sport too, and the Sport Kings collection opens with the legendary Ty Cobb. Although "The Georgia Peach" had retired five years prior, his celebrity status in American culture necessitated his appearance, and this PSA 8 example is a rare survivor that will spearhead any advanced collection. Wonderfully centered with NM/MT endpoints, the card offers a glowing sun-drenched backdrop that has largely repelled the usual stray print that gets picked up within the pigmentation. The reverse is bright and cleanly printed, meeting every expectation for such a loft grade. Only 5 have graded higher at PSA.
