With no appearances of Babe Ruth or Lou Gehrig, the Diamond Stars issue that was released between 1934 and 1936 has never really attained the same celebrity status as the famed Goudey sets of the same time period. But there is a myriad of Hall of Famers contained within, and many collectors remain attracted to the wildly colorful, stylistic art-deco design employed by National Chicle. At 108 cards, it's not an incredibly difficult set to complete, but to put one together in high-grade condition, that's another story completely. Offered here is a truly remarkable assemblage, currently ranked #2 Finest on the PSA set registry with a 7.63 rating. Nearly half the set is graded NM-MT 8, with a total of 51 cards at that level. There are also 36 cards at the NM 7 level, 7 cards graded NM+ 7.5, 10 cards graded NM-MT+ 8.5, 2 at the MINT 9 level, and 2 examples graded EX 5. The all-important #1 card, featuring Lefty Grove, is in a NM 7 holder, while important players in NM-MT 8 condition include Foxx, Hornsby, Martin, Maranville, Waner, Traynor, Manush, Lombardi, Hubbell, Jackson and Lopez. The two MINT 9 specimens are Blondy Ryan and Buck Jordan, both of which are the highest graded.
