Few baseball players in the league's history have had a more successful debut season than Hall of Famer Ted Williams, whose 1939 rookie campaign included a .327 batting average, 31 homers, and an American league-leading 145 RBI. Released the same year as his 1939 Play Ball card, so technically a rookie card as well, this V351 beauty originates from Canada and shows a wonderful image of the future legend, well-framed with corners and edges that appear sharper than the EX/MT grade suggests. A tough series to find in the United States, each card in the V351 collection measures 4” x 5 3/4” with a sepia-toned photograph of the player on the front and a black facsimile autograph printed at the bottom of the image and the reverse displays a "How To ...." series, in this case it's “How to Steal Bases." Only 9 of these examples have ever found their way to PSA headquarters, and the featured example is one of 4 to grade PSA 6 EX/MT with none graded higher. A spectacular and exceptionally rare example of "The Splendid Splinter."
