The 1951 Bowman rookie card of Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle is one of the defining cards from the 1950s, and for that matter, the entire hobby. With the incredible explosion in price of "The Mick's" legendary 1952 Topps card, it's long overdue that advanced collectors turn their attention to his true rookie card, imaging Mick as an 18-year-old at spring training and publicized to the masses by manager Casey Stengel. Seen here in a horizontal format with the traces of a number six on his back which he briefly wore before his mid-season demotion, the card is slightly amiss on centering but more accurate than most, with bold color and an attractive overall appearance. The moderate corner wear factors into the opined grade, but overall, it's a fine representation for the VG grading tier.
