The 1951 Bowman introduction of "The Commerce Comet" may not carry the swagger of the 1952 Topps card, but it is indeed his true rookie card and a wonderful piece nonetheless. The featured card has been graded PSA 6 EX/MT (MC) and the qualifier is clear due to the heavy centering shift. Still, the rich and robust image of Mantle, exhibiting far better registration than most at this level, is the most important characteristic. The corners and edges have retained a very respectable sharpness commensurate with a specimen in the upper half of the grading scale, and the reverse is properly printed with no significant liabilities.
