What we have here is an uncommonly bold colorful example of the key card from the scorching hot 1951 Bowman set, card #253, the cherished Mickey Mantle rookie card. Because of its prominence in the hobby, and in American popular culture in general, more than a few collectors continually mistake the famous 1952 Topps high-number for Mickey's rookie card, but informed hobbyists and devoted fans know better. The astute and altogether difficult graders at SGC have deemed the offered example as a NM 84(7) grade, which most assuredly elevates the offered pasteboard from the sublime to the penthouse. Four marvelously sharp NM/MT or better corners command the enthusiasts attention while the real showstopper is the exceptional color and spot registration with nary a print blemish to be encountered. The centering is astute from right to left while the north/south centering definably favors the top border. The surface is awash in a terrific fully encompassing layer of gloss, while the reverse offers a perfectly printed bio of the young Oklahoman Phenom. A card that comes with a sincere recommendation, offered in alluring NM condition.
