Almost universally regarded as the most important and desirable baseball card issue of all time, the heralded 1952 Topps set remains at the forefront of the cardboard collecting world 65 years after its initial release. Loaded with bold, colorful images on "super-sized" card stock, these groundbreaking collectibles exhibit impressive colorized photos on the fronts while the reverses featured innovative player biographical and statistical information to appeal to the avid baseball enthusiast of the day. The now-famous "high number" series, cards #311-407 including Mickey Mantle, Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella and Eddie Mathews, met with quality control issues as well as a sharp decrease in sales as autumn approached and Topps became more focused with the production and distribution of football cards. After sitting in a warehouse for almost a decade, hundreds of cases of high-numbered 1952 Topps baseball cards were unceremoniously dumped into the New York harbor somewhere off the coast of northern New Jersey, ensuring the scarcity of the final series. Offered with pleasure is a fantastic compilation of the popular 1952 Topps set, ranked #12 on the PSA Set Registry Current Finest list with an overall set rating of 7.210. Over 95% of the collection is graded PSA 7 or higher with one PSA 8.5 (#286 DiMaestri) and 196 cards graded PSA 8. The "big four": #1 Pafko (PSA 7), 261 Mays (PSA 7), 311 Mantle (PSA 4.5) and 407 Mathews (PSA 6) leave some room to improve the collection, which is well within striking distance of cracking the top ten with some select upgrades. This collection is being offered two different ways; here as a complete set and as each card offered individually, and will be sold to whichever total (the set versus the sum of the individual lots) is higher. This gives prospective bidders the opportunity to examine each and every card in the collection through the use of our high quality scans.
