With the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card proving to be one of the most lucrative investments in the sports card world, many owners have become hesitant to part with their prized possession as it could very well double and triple in value, once again, in the near future. After all, it is the grand prize of the iconic inaugural issue from Topps and unquestionably the most significant sports card of the post-war era, bringing immediate world-class status to any collection. If you've been actively seeking to acquire a mid to high-grade example over the past few years, chances are good that the rise in prices during that time period has left you on the wrong side of a winning bid. But if it's your mission to secure a worthy specimen for your collection, here's an opportunity to acquire baseball's most majestic post-war pasteboard. While not completely unique to '52 Topps Mantles, it is one of the few elite cards that is judged as much for its specific defining characteristics as it is for the technical grade. This SGC 5.5 EX+ specimen does not disappoint, framed mildly toward the top edge but well within tolerances for the grade. The endpoints are capably evaluated and in line with the overall assessment, varying between EX and EX/MT, while the bold blue aqua background encapsulating "The Commerce Comet" is impressively sharp and rivals higher-graded examples. The centering on the reverse is mildly askew but presents a very clean canvas overall, especially for the assessed grade. Judging by the sales history of this iconic pasteboard, you very well could be looking back at this card in several years, maybe even several weeks, lamenting your decision not to take that next bid and letting slip away another opportunity.
