While all 1952 Topps high number cards are difficult and costly to find in upper-grades, Topps threw in the added bonus, though perhaps unintentional, of including several legendary Hall of Famers that now pose the greatest challenge toward completing a top-notch set. One of the most taunting is the iconic issue of Jackie Robinson, a legendary specimen for its close-up portrait of the baseball pioneer set against a deep red backdrop. The featured specimen has secured the elite grade of PSA 8 and offers a remarkable central image surrounded by a bone white frame, revealing a very slight centering bias, but still far superior to the large majority of examples. The top two corners are decidedly above grade while the bottom two are in line with NM/MT expectations. The reverse is aptly clean and well-centered and the front surface shimmers due to a generous coating of gloss. A truly magnificent specimen that is more than capable of holding its own in a world-class set.
