Mantle, Mays, Pafko, and Mathews; the four cards that stand out in the inaugural 1952 Topps set. Mathews, as the last card of the collection and a member of the elusive high-number series, is a difficult and pricey venture, but this SGC 4.5 example projects a lot stronger than the assessed grade. Slightly off-center toward the top, and even more askew on the reverse but still better than many graded higher, the card offers a clean image of the 500-home run club Hall of Famer with corners and edges that seem to leave the assessed grade far behind. A wonderful value for any collector building a mid-grade set.
