In 1952, for the first time since Leaf bowed out of the baseball card market, Bowman had competition, this time from the upstart Topps Company. Now having to fight for market share, Bowman made some drastic changes to their design; first and foremost was to increase the size of the cards to match the "super-sized" cards that Topps was printing. But a complete makeover of the card was also performed, with great success. Most vintage card collectors agree that the 1953 Bowman Color set may be the most popular issue that Bowman ever produced. No nameplates, no team logos or player positions, just a super-large color photo that captivates the onlooker! If you want to know the player’s name, you’re gonna have to turn the card over, because that’s how we do! The featured 1953 Bowman Color complete set captures the incredible photography of the series in all its splendor, an assemblage ranked #7 on the PSA Set Registry with a 7.981 set rating. The set includes two cards graded PSA 9 (#26 and 157), six graded PSA 8.5 (46 Campanella, 103, 111, 117 Snider, 128, and 138), five cards graded PSA 7 (#77, 79, 119, 153 Ford, and 154), and two graded PSA 8 (OC) (94 and 133). Every other card in the set, from Mantle to Musial to the amazing issue of Pee Wee Reese, is graded PSA 8. This collection is being offered as a complete set as well as each card offered individually, with the final method of sale determined by whichever total (the set versus the sum of the individual lots) is higher.
