When you start rising into the NM/MT level with the 1955 Topps Sandy Koufax rookie card, you have to expect a superior piece, with or at least extremely close to perfect centering and a minimal amount of the obligatory stray print on the yellow backdrop, or not at all. Mission accomplished! A highly touted bonus-baby who made his Dodgers debut at the age of 19, Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax's career went from mediocre to meteoric at the halfway point. In his first six seasons, he was a pedestrian 36-40 with a 4.10 ERA, but in his final six seasons, he was virtually untouchable with a 2.19 ERA, 129-47 record, and 35 shutouts. Oh yeah, toss in a few no-hitters, a perfect game, three Cy Young awards, and a major league record of 382 strikeouts in a season. The centering of this iconic card is about as perfect as it gets, with virtually no stray print on the surface, easily earning the NM/MT grade and likely deserving of more if the Mike Baker Authenticated (MBA) "silver diamond" status for visual excellence is any indication, and you better believe it is! The reverse shows inconsequential toning that is common to the issue, adding a touch of character to one of the most prestigious pasteboards of the 1950s. A spectacular card of one of baseball's all-time greats!
