He didn't pitch four no-hitters, nor was he the 10th player in major league history to reach the 500 home run mark, but his rookie card far outpaces those that were. Even with Sandy Koufax and Harmon Killebrew making their debut in the 1955 Topps set, it's the rookie card of Roberto Clemente that stands as not just the key card in the series but is one of the most highly prized issues in all of the post-war era. And their surprisingly tough to find in high-grade as centering issues or print defects usually take them out of consideration, even if the corners and surfaces have managed to hold up well over the years. The featured card is graded PSA 7 and stands as one of the best we've seen at this level. First off, the centering is virtually dead-perfect, showing a consistently spaced border all the way around the perimeter. The colors, particularly the red and green pigments that dominate the surface, are uncommonly bright and clean. The reverse shows a light toning that is not unusual with the 1955 Topps series, and the corners are well within the standards demanded of the grade. If you're in the market for a NM Clemente rookie card, you should be extremely satisfied with this one.
