Roberto Clemente was not only a superstar for the home faithful in Pittsburgh but carried upon his shoulders the pride of an entire nation, his homeland of Puerto Rico. His overwhelming popularity within the hobby can easily be summed up with this; Sandy Koufax tossed four no-hitters (one being a perfect game) and Harmon Killebrew smashed the 500-HR barrier, and both made their rookie card debut in the 1955 Topps series, but the issue of Roberto Clemente reigns supreme over both! Surprisingly tough to find in high-grade due to centering issues and print defects, this PSA 7 example manages to sidestep both with a properly framed central image that projects a clean green backdrop free of intrusive blemishes. The corners and edges are of true NM/MT quality and the reverse shows the usual mild toning with deep red, green, and black print. If you're in the market for a NM Clemente rookie card, you will be quite satisfied with this beauty.
