Easily one of the most popular and collectible gridiron issues in the entire hobby, the celebrated '57 Topps issue features rookie appearances of Hall of Famers Bart Starr, Johnny Unitas and Paul Hornung, along with a plethora of other stars and rookies. The set utilized a rather straightforward design, with card fronts bisected to allow for a portrait shot on one side along with an in-action shot on the other, each set against a different-colored solid background. At 154 cards plus an unnumbered checklist, the set also contains inaugural pasteboard appearances of Don Chandler, Yale Lary, Dick Lane, Raymond Berry, Tommy McDonald, and Sid Youngelman, in addition to the "Big Three" listed above. Presented here is a complete 155-card set, with each and every card graded by the Newport Beach evaluators. Starr and Hornung are in NM 7 holders while Unitas appears in solid EX/MT 6 condition. The ever-difficult checklist card, with a Bazooka reverse, is graded VG 3 due to a couple of light creases, but offers tons of bright, unfaded colors. Aside from the checklist, two cards are graded MINT 9 (OC), two cards are graded NM/MT+ 8.5, 31 cards are graded NM/MT 8 (with one OC qualifier), 75 cards are graded NM 7, one card graded EX/MT+ 6.5, and 43 are graded EX/MT 6, for an overall GPA of 6.90.
