As the inaugural offering from Topps and the first mainstream basketball series since the Bowman collection in 1948, the 1957 basketball series has more than its share of what are considered significant rookie cards, but near the top of the list is the debut of Bob Cousy. One of the first NBA superstars at the point guard position, Cousy led the league in assists for eight consecutive seasons while also averaging almost 20 points per game, propelling the Boston Celtics to five straight championships and six over seven years. This 1957 Topps example of Cousy is his rightful rookie card although he was already the reigning league MVP with seven seasons to his credit. The card displays wonderful color without as much of the usual stray overprint that is standard for the issue, and most importantly, the centering is almost perfect, certainly a rare occurrence for this card and the series in general, and the reverse displays pack-fresh brightness. The edges and endpoints also maintain NM/MT quality. An elite-level example of a key rookie card.
