As part of their persona, the Topps Company was always looking to change things up with each passing year, and in 1958, Topps took the players back off of the field and created a set that featured mostly close-up portraits against wildly colorful and varying backgrounds. This made the 1958 set as innovative and striking as its predecessor. While the selection of significant rookie cards doesn't compare to the prior collection, the series has some of the most memorable examples in the hobby. The featured collection is complete and ranks #16 on the PSA Set Registry with an 8.125 GPA. There are 55 cards graded PSA 9 MINT and three cards graded PSA 8.5, but all of the other cards in the series, including Mantle Mays, Aaron, Maris, and every other key star, rookie, and Hall of Famer, are graded PSA 8.
