By the time this 1958 Topps card was released, Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle had lived up to expectations as the latest Yankees icon to continue a dynasty that had reigned for almost 40 years. A 1956 Triple Crown winner and 2-time defending American League MVP, "The Commerce Comet" already had four World Series championships under his belt, and he would grab the title again in 1958, 61, and 62. Unlike the portrait shots in the 1952 and 1953 Topps sets, a real photo close-up of Mickey Mantle appears in the 1958 series, and this SGC 8 graded example of Mantle shows a well-registered image supported by a glowing orange background and blue nameplate that is unblemished. Corners that epitomize NM/MT quality complement the glossy obverse and respectable centering while the back of the card is extremely clean and bold with no surface imperfections. A tremendous piece that can rival any in its class, and maybe some graded even higher.
