In 1938, Orson Welles narrated a radio adaptation of H. G. Wells' "War of the Worlds" that caused widespread panic throughout the nation. Many listeners missed the disclaimer that it was a fictional tale, taking to the streets believing invaders from Mars were attacking Earth. The 1962 Mars Attacks series is a nod to that event and chronicles an attempted invasion by our neighbors just a planet away. Here's the rare and all-important card #1 from one of the most popular non-sports sets of the post-war era, presented in PSA 8 grade. Amazingly colorful, one of the reasons the set is so popular, this example of "The Invasion Begins" carries staunch NM/MT or better corners with astute centering and all of the eye-grabbing color you expect from such a lofty grade. The reverse is equally superior, and projects at an advanced level commensurate with the grade. An essential piece for making a statement on the PSA Set Registry as only one has graded higher.
