While the notation on the bottom of the other 1964 Topps football box featured in this auction suggests that it was acquired shortly after its release in August, this near full 1964 Topps box has no such indicator but likely came later in the 1964 season. No longer touting the "Extra Full-Color Pennant in Each Pack" on the box, a label plastered over the original advertising offers "8 cards in Each Pack," up from the original distribution of 6 cards per pack, a change noted prominently on the wrapper. The most reasonable explanation would be (though we cannot confirm it) that this box was released toward the latter half of the season with Topps increasing the amount of cards in the pack to further entice would-be patrons and divest themselves of excess product. If that turns out to be the case, it would also stand to reason that unopened 8-card packs would probably be even more limited in quantity that the 6-card packs, with the added benefit of 33% more product per pack. Featured here is "part two" of the 1964 Topps football section of "Beer Box II," a near full 1964 Topps "8-card per pack" box featuring 19 of the 24 packs. As with all of the other feature items offered in this auction, the NM to MINT packs have been authenticated by Steve Hart of Baseball Card Exchange and sealed within the box, which happens to be in outstanding condition save for some light scattered creases. Whether you just go after this rare beauty or take a run at both 1964 Topps football boxes, keep in mind that this is an opportunity that will could very well never come again!
