After years of being portrayed in his lefty or right batting stance, "The Commerce Comet" returned in the 1967 Topps set with a close-up portrait against a bright baby blue backdrop. While no longer putting up the same legendary numbers he did in the 50s and the early 60s, Mantle was still a fan favorite with some pop in his bat, registering 23 home runs in just 333 at-bats while raising his batting average back up to .285 and closing the 1966 season just four homers short of the 500-home run club, giving Yankees fans motivation to flood the ballpark to watch a milestone event entering the 1967 season. The featured card earns the rarely seen grade of PSA 9 due to its excellent centering, a fantastic portrayal of the central image and strong MINT corners. Only 2 have graded higher.
