Other than the rookie card of Nolan Ryan, of which there is but one lone specimen at the PSA 10 GEM MINT level, the argument can be made that the issue of Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente is next in line for the most coveted GEM MINT example in the 1968 Topps set, all due respect given to Mickey Mantle and all other baseball legends. For a card that has been one of the most frequent visitors to PSA headquarters (over 5,000 submissions), the featured offering is one of just 5 to reach the summit on the grading scale. Clemente had just completed his seventh consecutive .300 plus season, including his third National League batting title in four years and his fourth title over seven years, seasons that helped cement his legacy as the final member of the 3,000-hit club. The featured card is a wonderful representation of the Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder, perfectly positioned with a colorful, well-focused image of the legend, set against a wonderfully bright blue sky. This beauty will shake up the PSA Set Registry standings for sure!
