While the black-bordered 1971 Topps set is widely considered the most difficult collection of the decade to assemble in high grade, its predecessor from 1970 has proven to be just as difficult. After a run of relatively simplistic sets in the latter part of the 1960s, Topps returned to their 1962 playbook and released a collection with completely colored borders. The grey borders of the 1970 set have proven to be extremely sensitive, and coupled with profuse print defects and chronic centering issues, the 1970 set continues to challenge and frustrate even the most prolific set builders in the hobby. The featured set defies the odds and comes to you with a GPA of 8.773, ranking it #13 on the PSA Set Registry. There are 23 cards graded PSA 10 GEM MINT (no stars or Hall of Famers), nine cards are graded PSA 8.5, 186 cards are graded PSA 8 with #1 World Champs, 10 Yastrzemski, 140 R. Jackson, 150 Killebrew, 230 B. Robinson, 290 Carew, 350 Clemente, 380 Perez, 450 McCovey, 458 Rose, 459 R. The large majority of the set (about 70%) is graded PSA 9 MINT and includes AL and NL Leader cards #64, 65, 66, 69, 70, 71, and 72, 170 B Williams, 189 Munson RC, 197 Ryan Saves Day, 210 Marichal, 211 T.
