At 42 years old, Willie Mays was no longer the legendary slugger that won home run crowns and MVP awards, though he did get one final shot at the World Series with the New York Mets in the city in which his legendary career began. Mays wore this Wilson size 42 gamer in the waning days of his storied career, and the mere presence of such a distinguished piece harkens back to the great teams of the early 1970s, including that magical 1973 Mets team that finished just three games over .500 but booted the mighty Cincinnati Reds out of the race in a five game NL Championship series. Inside the collar is the obligatory "42 73 24" team swatch to denote jersey size, year and player number, with wear from age visible on the identifiers as well as a signed but faded signature of "The Say Hey Kid" under the "New" in New York. Some light fraying on the piping and minor staining on the front are indicative of a player used sparingly during the season. One of the last jerseys Willie Mays ever wore! LOA from JSA for the signature with LOA from Mile High Card Company.
