Throughout the history of basketball cards leading up to the 1980 Topps series, you'd be hard-pressed to find any multi-player, including "league leader" cards, with the star power to match the iconic issue of the Bird/Dr. J/Magic card. And of course, featuring Bird and Magic as rookies makes it arguably the most important basketball specimen ever produced by Topps. Though drafted in different years (Bird #6 overall in 1978 and Magic #1 overall in 1979), their college rivalry was destined to extend into the pros when they landed with the Celtics and Lakers respectively, propelling both to top 50 All-NBA status. Up for auction is an impressively sharp and vibrant example of the iconic 1980 Topps Larry Bird and Magic Johnson dual rookie card, joined in the center by fellow hardcourt legend Julius Erving. The composition of this world-famous card is staggering in its simple proportions: Bird guards the back door, Dr. J throws a no-look pass, and Magic floats a leaning one-hander, all within a few square inches of cardboard! The corners are true MINT endpoints and the centering is quite accurate for the issue. It's a very solid MINT 9 example.
