After a less than welcoming response to the 3-card panel format of the 1980-81 Topps basketball series, Topps when back to their standard-sized cards but with a twist. After the first 66 cards, the set breaks into three regional 44 card collections, with cards #67-110 repeated three times with "East", "West", and "Midwest" added to the number. It probably confused a few collectors, but the Kevin McHale and Bill Laimbeer RCs as well as the first solo cards of Larry Bird and Magic Johnson made it a bit more palatable. This complete 198-card set is very strong with 30% NM/MT or better, 50% NM, and 20% lower, mostly due to centering issues. Key cards include #4 Bird NM/MT, 20 Abdul-Jabbar NM/MT, 21 M. Johnson NM/MT (OC), 30 Erving NM, 74MW Laimbeer RC NM+, 75E McHale RC NM/MT, 101E Bird NM+, and 109W M. Johnson AS NM.
