For many decades, the #1 overall selection in the Major League Baseball draft seemed to be more of a curse than a blessing. Oh sure, some nice players came from that #1 spot over the years: Rick Monday, Harold Baines, Darryl Strawberry, Shawon Dunston, and Tim Belcher for example, but none worthy of legendary status, and there were significantly more duds than studs. That was until the Seattle Mariners selected Ken Griffey Jr. in 1987. The namesake of his three-time all-star father, Griffey Jr. far exceeded his pops and finished his career with 630 taters, ranking him #7 on the all-time list. Presented is a magnificent game-used bat that Ken Griffey Jr. swung in 1998 to hit his 33rd home run of the season, according to the inscription added to his silver marker autograph. A black Louisville Slugger model C271 stick that shows wonderful game use in the form of ball scuffs and blue bat rack marks, with Junior's signature criss-cross taping of the handle. LOA from PSA/DNA Graded 10 and from JSA.
