One of only 5 produced (this is #1/5), the Panini company calls the card "Passing of the Torch" but there's a chance that 10 or 15 years from now, we'll be calling it a tribute card to the three greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. Granted, we might be getting a little ahead of ourselves in bestowing such an honor on a quarterback entering just his fourth complete season, but so far, Patrick Mahomes' body of work to date has at least earned him the right to have his name considered in such company as Manning and Brady. Each quarterback took a vastly different trajectory from one another to start their careers: Peyton Manning was the celebrated "next big thing" and an NFL legacy to QB great, Archie Manning, whose rocky NFL professional introduction included a dismal 3-13 record and a league-high 28 interceptions. Tom Brady, a two-year college starter whose pedestrian performance at the University of Michigan had him destined to holding an NFL clipboard as a 6th round afterthought for the New England Patriots. And then there's Mahomes, the son of a former big-league baseball player and the second QB taken in the 2017 draft with the #10 overall selection by the Kansas City Chiefs, banking that he wouldn't be the next in a long line of draft busts at the QB position. Manning is a Hall of Famer, Brady will be when he decides to stop winning Super Bowls, and Mahomes is on his way to potentially besting them both. The featured card is one of the most coveted specimens devoted to the gridiron, sporting perfect blue marker signatures of each player. The reverse is not like other signature cards; there are no congratulations for your fortuitous "pull." No, this card is above that sort of thing. It's merely a masterpiece!
