With Ty Cobb still an up-and-coming superstar, it was likely that the most popular subject in the stadium giveaway 1910 "Fan for a Fan" series wasn't "Georgia Peach" but instead was "The Christian Gentleman" Christy Mathewson. Mathewson entered the 1910 season with 236 career victories and had a stellar 1909 campaign with a 25-6 record and a National League league-leading 1.14 ERA, the fourth lowest in all of major league history. Most of the fans that have survived show extensive wear around the perimeter but this is a lot cleaner than most of the examples that we've encountered. The image of Mathewson is sublime, bursting with bold red and green colors to support the detailed portrait. A wonderful relic from the turn of the century, framed to a size of 17 1/2" x 12 1/2" x 1 1/4".
