Fred Zimbalist (1909-2003) was known for his unique, engraved brass pieces, many similar in design but no two exactly the same. The featured music box offered here has a baseball theme, playing the unofficial anthem "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" when opened. The two-tone floral-designed base appears to be elongated at one endpoint to simulate home plate. The baseball and crisscrossing bats are specially decorated as well with unique engraved stitches while the golden sphere opens to a hollow ball with further decor on the top, allowing the song to play. A wonderful item!
