Though playing most of his career in an era when pitchers put in far more time on the mound and the home run was a rare occurrence, almost all baseball historians are in agreement that Walter Johnson's pitching achievements transcend any time period in baseball history. Playing his entire 21-year career with the Washington Senators, Johnson posted 10 consecutive 20+ win seasons, leading the American League in wins for four straight years from 1913-16, posting a 116-58 record over that stretch with a 1.59 ERA. The featured original type I photo was snapped sometime between 1912-15 and provided the inspiration for his 1914 and 1915 Cracker Jack cards (the stands in the background were replaced with the signature Cracker Jack red backdrop on the card). Some mild chipping along the top corners does nothing to detract from the majesty of the iconic photo; this 8" x 10" snapshot is quite literally the most impressive photo of "The Big Train" in the hobby. PSA authenticated and slabbed.

ADDENDUM++++ Please note that it has come to our attention that the offered photo is not the exact photo used for the 1914-15 Cracker Jack card as it is from the same photo shoot but shot from a very slightly different angle and it nearly identically matches the photo used for the Cracker Jack issue. In regards to any bidders who have placed a bid and would like to retract their bid please reach out to our office before 11/21/22 and we will retract your bid. MHCC will also be reaching out to those bidders who have already placed a bid. We do sincerely apologize for this issue but as you can see the images are absolutely nearly identical.
Exceptional c. 1912-15 Walter Johnson Type I Original Photograph From The Original Photo Shoot for his Cracker Jack Card Nearly Identical Image - The Most Impressive Walter Johnson Photo In The Hobby
