Barney Dreyfuss was the owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1900-1932 and built one of the first modern steel and concrete ballparks in Forbes Field in 1909. During his ownership, the Pittsburgh Pirates won six National League pennants and two World Series titles, 1909 and 1925. The offered piece of baseball history is a two-page letter on Official Pittsburgh Pirates stationery, addressed to "Fred" - Pirates player/manager and Hall of Famer Fred Clarke. Dated November 11th, 1910, the letter includes some person discussion but is mostly baseball related, seeking clarification on an incident involving ace pitcher Howie Camnitz. It also outlines a trade offer for Camnitz from Brooklyn that was "too ridiculous to entertain," saying "Ebbets would be willing to exchange a plugged nickel for a gold dollar if her were given the opportunity." The letter is signed by Dreyfuss in clean, vintage black steel-tip fountain pen. Full LOA from JSA.
