In 1930, 35-year old Babe Ruth hit 46 homers, drove in 153 runs and batted .359, but he wasn't the best player in the American League. You could argue he wasn't even the best player on his own team as Lou Gehrig was just hitting his prime, and at the age of 27 slammed 41 homers, drove in 173 runs at batted .379, numbers that seem ridiculous to the point of impossible by today's standards. Ruth, Gehrig and fellow Hall of Famers Lazzeri, Combs, Dickey, Ruffing and Travis Jackson have all signed this OAL (Bernard) 1930 New York Yankees team ball with "The Babe" taking his customary position on the sweet spot. A moderate rub along the back end of "Babe" does nothing to detract from the majesty of baseball's most celebrated signature, while Gehrig's mark to the left and just above Bill Dickey is easily spotted and completely legible. Other signatures, include Bengough, Lary, Chapman, Pipgras, Reese, Byrd, Cooke, Sherid and Edwards. Full LOA from JSA.
