As was often the case with the "less-respected" sport of the time, this full unopened cello box of 1959 Topps football cards is packaged in a generic Trading Card Guild box, identified only as "football hobby box, 36 count, 10 cents per pack" on each side of the box. But today, this same box houses a countless number of gems, perhaps pristine examples of the rookie card of Sam Huff, Alex Karras, Jim Taylor, Jim Taylor or Bobby Mitchell as well as key issues of Johnny Unitas, Jim Brown, Bart Starr, and Paul Hornung. And don't let the bright colors and sharp images of the cards in the set fool you into thinking that this is an "easy" set for GEM MINT examples, since out of over 50,000 total submissions to PSA for the entire collection, less than 400 cards have been returned in a PSA 10 holder, and none exist, at present, for #1 Unitas, 20 Gifford, 65 Conerly, 155 Taylor, and 176 Tracy among others. Each cello pack houses twelve cards for a total of 432 cards, meaning the adventuring collector trying to find buried treasure should average 2 or 3 of each card from the 176-card series. The box comes wrapped with the seal of approval on the bottom from Baseball Card Exchange (BBCE).
