The 1966 Topps set is one of the most desirable assemblages of the 1960s and it starts immediately with card #1, Willie Mays. And having just won his third National League home run title and second MVP award, "The Say Hey Kid" certainly earned the pole position for this collection. Bearing the elevated grade of MINT 9 as evaluated by PSA, this card displays a well-registered image coming forth from a soothing background of blue and green pigment. The borders on this specimen, as you'd expect, are blazing white and all four corners are absolutely MINT. Flip it over to the reverse and you'll see a clean slate with strong black and salmon coloring, and there's something about that glowing "1" in the upper left horizontal corner that lets you realize you're just a winning bid away from something special. With exactly none graded higher, there's no better way to begin a top-ranked collection.
