Hall of Famer Travis "Stonewall" Jackson was discovered at the age of 14 by Kid Elberfeld, who signed him to a minor league contract before recommending him to John McGraw. Despite numerous injuries and illnesses during his career, he was regarded as one of the best shortstops of the era.
