Sporting a very squared perimeter that outpaces most examples at this grade level, this wonderful T206 "bat on shoulder" card of the immortal Ty Cobb earns the SGC 5 EX grade by displaying above-grade features in most respects but restrained slightly by a shift in the top to bottom centering. However, you'd hardly consider it offensive to the naked eye as the real draw is the stunning image of "The Georgia Peach", perfectly delivered and well-complemented by the glowing yellow backdrop that resists all but the most inconsequential of stray print. When this set was first introduced in 1909, Cobb had completed two seasons as a full-time starter, winning the American League batting title both times as the beginning of a streak of nine consecutive batting titles and 12 in 13 seasons. A wonderful mid-grade card and a key piece of the iconic T206 white border tobacco series.
