Having looked this PSA 8.5 NM/MT example of Michael Jordan's 1985 Nike Promo card over carefully, it seems that the question shouldn't be what keeps it from MINT status (because it already should be a PSA 9) but what restrains it from GEM MINT contention. Every one of the examples in this auction (with the possible exception of the PSA 7) looks as though it had a very legitimate chance at PSA's top grade, and even though several came in a half-grade higher than this one, we might have chosen this as the best one without knowing how PSA graded them.
